Once again I find myself reminded that no good deed goes unpunished. I go over to my mom’s house about once a week to take care of her pool. She’s older and doesn’t get around all that well anymore. But she refuses to pay a pool service. That’s OK because I don’t mind doing it for her. Plus I get to see her every week this way too. But this past week I was trimming a palm by her pool and I stepped back just a little too far. I fell into the pool with my brand new cell phone in my pocket.
I just paid over $100 for this fancy new iPhone! Now it was ruined. I was absolutely beside myself. I felt like such an idiot. A friend suggested I put the phone in rice. No, not cooked rice either! Apparently what the uncooked rice will do is suck the water right out of the phone and all of the tiny little electrical circuits and parts inside. So I poured some uncooked brown rice (I don’t eat the bleached crap) into a glass bowl and put my new phone in. I made sure rice thoroughly covered the phone and I let it sit overnight. The next morning I pulled it out and turned it on. It worked! So if you go into a pool with your phone, just put it in rice and everything will be OK!

Facebook Rocks!

After high school I moved away from my home town and went to college. I stayed in touch with some of my friends for several years though. I would occasionally go back and visit because my parents still lived in that town and would run into a few of my old high school buddies when I did go back to visit. But as the years passed my visits became less frequent. And as those years passed I eventually lost touch with all of my old high school friends.
Then along came Facebook. It’s kind of like MySpace but for adults. I started reconnecting with my old high school friends fairly quickly. But then things kicked into high gear because a rather pivotal high school reunion was coming up. Some of my classmates got together and started spearheading the 25th year high school reunion, and they decided to use Facebook as their springboard. They put the word out about their plans on this medium, and suddenly old classmates were coming out of the woodwork. Before I knew what had happened, I crossed the 150 friend mark on Facebook. And it just kept growing. I am very happy that Facebook provided the platform to reconnect with some long lost friends.

I’m really torn about which PDA to get. Currently I have a Palm Treo 700W which is the windows version. I like it a lot, but it has got to be at least three years old now. And unfortunately the touch screen is starting to foul up. And if you have any of the Palm Treo 700 series PDAs, then you know just how important the touch screen can be. Add to that the fact that my Verizon contract is about to expire and the fact that I can take my phone number with me if I switch and suddenly there are a lot of possibilities out there. Truth be told, I’m not really very thrilled with Verizon because a couple of places that I frequent don’t have Verizon service, yet all of my friends using other providers do have service in those locations.
Right now the PDA that I’m leaning towards is the Apple iPhone. My biggest concern is that I really like using Microsoft Outlook for my contact management, calendar and email software. I have heard that you can hotsync an iPhone to Outlook, but I don’t know for sure if this is a fact. I also heard that the iPhone had some problems when they first came out, but I don’t know for sure if that was true. And if it is true, I don’t know if they fixed it. So if you have an iPhone, please give me your candid opinion about whether you like it or not.

To most people all of those yellow page directories that seem to pile up on our front door steps are a menace. OK, maybe some of you out there really like getting these things since they keep you up to date since sometimes businesses open up that you might not have otherwise known about. And other times perhaps a business goes under.
But do you really think that these yellow pages are showing up as a service to you? Of course they are not. They are showing up because the advertisers have paid for them to show up on your doorstep!
That’s how the directories make their money. Sure, they will go ahead and do the basic business listings for free. But if you want an expanded listing, as a business you have to pay for it. And sometimes it is big bucks! Of course the price varies by the size of the ad. A full page ad is going to cost a small fortune. A half page ad is going to cost about half of a small fortune, and so on. And for the people with really deep pockets (usually injury attorneys) you can even score the back cover! And that is why they keep piling up on your doorstep.

Finding People Is Easier Now Than Ever
Filed Under Helpful Info | 6 Comments
Many years ago if you wanted to find somebody your options were kind of limited. The best option by far would have been to grab a telephone directory, or the white pages, and look that person up. Well the way we get our information these days has changed. And it makes finding people a lot easier.
The white pages are still an option. However, even though phone books appear on our door steps all too often, few of us actually use the antiquated things. Instead, we turn to the internet. And the internet actually has its own form of these phone directories. If you punch “phone directory” into any internet browser, you will come up with hundreds of white page phone number look up options. Just punch in a name, and go from there.
And with this technology comes other fun options too. You can now do a reverse look up. You punch in a phone number, and it will tell you whose phone number it is! This can be a little intrusive don’t you think? Try this one on for size: Pull up Google, and punch your own personal home phone number in. The result you’ll get is not only your name, but your address as well!

You Can Find Anything Online These Days
Filed Under Helpful Info | 9 Comments
I just love the fact that you can pretty much find anything you want online these days. Seriously! How did I ever make it through my school years without the Internet? Yes, I had it for my college years, but I sure would have loved it while I was in those wretched high school years.
Even as an adult, I still research so much. I can be watching a program on the Dust Bowl and go online to find out more stuff. I can watch “The Aviator” and go online to find out more about Howard Hughes within minutes. I can find out how to get grease out of my carpet or a creepy stalker out of my life, all with a push of a button. It’s amazing!
I even found a long lost friend from high school on the internet. MySpace to be exact. How great is that? You can find anything online these days!

I had my identity stolen a few months ago and since then, I’m pretty careful about sharing any information about myself. For the most part, I use my cell phone when I want to give out a phone number, but have recently found that I’m getting junk mail from vendors I’d given my cell phone too. NOT my address, just my cell number. They must do a reverse lookup.
This freaks me out! Is there a way to keep people from being able to find out what my mailing address is by looking up my cell number? I don’t want to become a hermit or anything but desperately want to protect my privacy.
Anyone else going through this? I need some help!

How can you find someone’s address if they don’t list it in the phone directory?
Filed Under Law & Ethics | 5 Comments
I have to convince the address of former tenant to take it to small claims court. It was moved and didn 't list your address in new phone number in a different city. I tried searching for direction, but he said the only way, which is miles long, the number of the apartment or house.
